Free College Benefit
In Partnership with Eastern Cateway Community College, the Free College Benefit is an investment in you and your future. Union members and their families do not have to pay out of pocket for any tuition, fees or e-books—resulting in cost savings of thousands of dollars. The benefit works as a “last-dollar scholarship”, or grant, that is intended to fill the gap between any federal, state or employer education grants you receive and the cost of tuition, fees and e-books for certain online degree programs.
Your union defines who can take advantage of the scholarship and verifies membership and eligibility. EGCC does not assess the level of financial dependence or the definition of domestic partner. Family members do not have to live with you and there is no age limit for the scholarship and no limit to the number of family members who can enroll and receive the scholarship.
To receive the Free College Benefit fill out the inquiry form on the website and complete the following steps:
- Apply to EGCC.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit any required verification. Any grant award must be applied to the tuition, fees and e-book charges at EGCC.
- Agree to use any employer tuition assistance.
- Verify High School or GED completion by submitting proof of High School graduation or GED completion to EGCC.

National Fraternal Order of Police Univerisity
The National Fraternal Order of Police University is a consortium of colleges and universities that provides members with a variety of learning programs. These programs are held in traditional and non-traditional forums. The formation of NFOPU allows members to take courses while accommodating the unique requirements of a working law enforcement officer's schedule. These courses can be taken online, making it easier to obtain a degree on your own time.
There is no cost to the NFOPU. Members can receive benefits in the form of actual tuition cost reduction or extensive credit for past degree work, POST training, and FBI Academy training. Students can matriculate more quickly through the program because of credits received—resulting in completion of your degree in a timely and cost efficient manner.
