FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington State FOP Thanks the Senate for Support

Olympia, Washington – March 21, 2017 - The Washington State Fraternal Order of Police would like to express our appreciation to the members of the Washington State Senate for showing bipartisan support for Senate Bill ESB 5280, which amends the existing crimes and threats against persons because of their race, color religion ancestry, national origin, gender, etc. and to now include Law Enforcement Officers.

On behalf of all law enforcement members and their families, the Fraternal Order of Police is appreciative with the support of the Senate voting to approve a law enforcement officers protection bill that addresses the blatant targeting of police officers for proudly wearing the uniform and badge they put on each day; a symbol of the oath they swore to protect the citizens of the communities they serve.

The Webster Dictionary defines discrimination as, “Treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit.”

Discrimination comes in all shapes and sizes. The Washington State Fraternal Order of Police would like to encourage EVERY elected official in the Washington State House of Representatives, to denounce the violent attacks on police officers and also support this legislation in a bipartisan effort.  We can stand together and let it be known that no one deserves to be targeted as identified in RCW 9A.36.078 and in this case the profession you have chosen.

The Washington State Fraternal Order of Police recognizes the hard work of the Senators, both Republican and Democrat, to pass this extremely important legislation for ALL Law Enforcement Officers and their families.

The Fraternal Order of Police is the largest National Police Organization in the United States representing over 330,000 Law Enforcement Officers.  The Washington State Fraternal Order of Police represents officers in city, county, state and federal Law Enforcement agencies.  Our members live and work in the communities we serve.
